Assistant Dean for Human Resources and Administration

Job Description

ASSISTANT DEAN FOR HUMAN RESOURCES (HR) AND ADMINISTRATION, School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P), to serve as the senior administrative leader in the SA+P for all aspects of human resources.  Will be the key administrative liaison between the Dean’s Office and the constituent units of the school and central administrative units.  Primary responsibilities include recommending policies and procedures, implementing administrative guidelines, and providing oversight of the HR functions of the school’s academic departments and programs; providing guidance to departments, labs, and centers (DLCs) on interpreting and developing policies/procedures; maintaining collaborative relationships with DLCs and other offices; serving on committees and task forces and assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the dean; and representing SA+P on institutional assignments and professional activities.      

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  B.A./B.S.; ten years’ high-level administrative experience, preferably in a university, and proven success overseeing human resources; diplomacy and effective interpersonal communication skills; excellent organizational, active listening, and written and verbal communication skills;  working knowledge of the operations of complex research universities or research organizations; and attention to detail but with the ability to also view larger policy concerns.  Must be able to lead and manage a wide variety of responsibilities in multiple functional areas in a dynamic, fast-paced organization; prioritize multiple and often competing demands under deadline pressure; synthesize information from multiple sources and provide succinct, actionable briefing materials and action plans; work independently; innovate and solve complex problems, help initiate new policies and procedures, and implement new or interpret existing policies/procedures; and make difficult decisions and empower and support others to do the same.  PREFERRED:  law degree, high-level experience in academic affairs and HR in a higher education setting, and MIT experience.  Job #23998-13
