Job Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Biological Engineering, to provide technical assistance on multiple high-impact projects in the research lab of Professor Katharina Ribbeck. These include the isolation and purification of mucus components for the development of assays to identify artificial sweeteners with superior flavor properties, the development of chemical profiling methods to identify properties of salivary mucus that mediate favorable sweetener perception, and the development of mucus-based assays to predict sweetener perception. Primary responsibilities will include developing and implementing biochemical protocols for mucin isolation from saliva, isolating and characterizing mucin-associated glycans, testing sweetener function in the context of mucus, and other tasks as assigned. 

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: bachelor’s in biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, biological engineering, or a related field; at least two years of laboratory experience, preferably in a biology, microbiology, or biological engineering lab; experience with routine protein biochemistry techniques, including protein purification methods and troubleshooting; willingness to learn new techniques/protocols; excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills; self-motivation; ability to work independently and as part of a team, plan and troubleshoot experiments, and carefully document and maintain work in detailed written records; attention to detail; and familiarity with and a strong track record of adhering to laboratory safety protocols.  PREFERRED:  experience with microbial culturing.  Job #23788
