Position Description
Wake Technical Community College is seeking to expand our pool of part-time faculty to teach Developmental English classes in Pre-Curriculum Education. Openings for these positions may or may not be available at this time; however, after a review of qualifications, applicants may be contacted in the future. Adjunct faculty positions provide quality, effective instruction in assigned courses on a part-time, temporary basis.
Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.
- Evaluates initial student entry-level skills in order to determine appropriate course placement and conferences with student on developing needed skills.
- Prepares instruction that reflects appropriate learning objectives
- Constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course
- Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour
- Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner
Works cooperatively with the Individualized Learning Center
Uses formative and summative assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching
Remains up-to-date on technology and methods of teaching with technology
Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance
Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment Grades and returns student work in a timely manner
Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course
Supports the Department, Division, and College goals, providing requested data in a timely manner
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationship with students, peers, supervisors and staff
Working knowledge of MS Office products
Knowledge of Blackboard, an online teaching tool is preferredRequirements:
Bachelor's Degree in English or English Education

Preferences:
Master's Degree in English or a Master's Degree with 18 graduate semester hours in English
